REVIEW EXCERPT:

"Yes, 'Living Surfing Legend' Fred Van Dyke has taken up his stick again, albeit a slightly smaller one, to write these two fun kids' stories. The longer of the two, 'Makua Lives on the Beach,' is better. It's a touching story of a young surfer who is befriended by a Hawaiian monk seal. The seal, Kila, helps Makua line up at the best spot at Sunset, and gives him good advice when he gets in trouble at school. Makua in turn nurses Kila back to health when he is injured.
The second story, 'The Old Man Who Loved Surfing,' is more of a nostalgia piece. Set in Makaha, the main character bears a striking resemblance to Van Dyke, even in the illustrations. This book is for older kids who can already read pretty well."
